About Whitwell Publishing
Whitwell Publishing is a multi-generational family publishing house in Austin, Texas. We gather two bodies of work and a shared reading life under one roof, with a single conviction: that good books, carefully made, can change how a person thinks and lives.
The house and its mission
Our purpose is simple to say and demanding to practice: inspiring the world, one chapter at a time. We publish work that takes ideas seriously, respects the reader, and earns its place on a shelf for the long term. We favor depth over noise and craft over volume.
Two bodies of work
The house holds two distinct but kindred catalogues. The first is the contemporary line of Stefan Whitwell, whose ideas reach readers across four mediums: books on technology, wealth, and the examined life; white papers and frameworks; the podcast The Meaning of Money; and a growing library of talks and conversations.
The second is the scholarly legacy of Dr. David Whitwell, conductor, historian, and the author of more than fifty books on the history, philosophy, and aesthetics of music. His life's work lives in the David Whitwell Library and is sold through whitwellbooks.com.
The reading life
Beyond what we publish, we share what we read. The Book Listis Stefan's recommended reading: the titles he returns to on business, biography, persuasion, focus, and the well-lived life. It is an invitation to read more widely and more deliberately.
The family thread
We are, above all, a family enterprise. The Whitwell name carries a history that runs back roughly a thousand years, and the work we publish today is one more chapter in a long story. You can read more about where we come from in the Whitwell family history.
